Happy Autumn!

The trees are still rather green where we live but getting a lot of falling leaves, nonetheless. Enjoying the cooler mornings and have already had a couple of fires in the fireplace! We have over a cord of wood ready but always working on more so we can enjoy the coming season fully.

Have you ever heard of Stonington Red Shrimp? Have to admit I hadn’t either until new contributor Andrea E. McHugh brought them to my attention. Thank you! We’re sure you’ll love her story and won’t be surprised that many of CT’s best chefs are big fans of the Reds.

We’re featuring a new section called Edible for Kids sponsored by Barefoot Books this issue. These are available from Edible Communities a few times per year. Please let us know what you, and your kids or grandkids think about this fun interactive piece. We’re not done! Also have great articles on the new Mystic Fish Camp, The Foundry in Hartford, and an introduction to pickling just in time to prepare for the holidays! A big welcome to new advertiser, University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, with a mission to “Learn how economics, psychology, and tradition shape our everyday food choices.”

And also, to the Neighboring Food Co-op based in Shelburne Falls, MA. Did you know there are more than 60 Food Co-ops across New England and New York State? In Connecticut, there are two Food Co-ops, locally owned by 12,000 members, generating $14 million in revenue, and employing about 90 people.

  • Willimantic Food Co-op, Willimantic
  • Fiddleheads Natural Foods Co-op, New London

We also thank the Willimantic Food Coop for being a valued supporter from day one!
Enjoy the wonderful weather and we’ll see you soon for our Winter Holiday issue!

Love & light,
