In the Summer 2025 Issue

MISE EN PLACE…

It’s finally summer in Connecticut but the constant rain does keep a damper on things. We love seeing all the lush green and many flowers blooming so that is a balm to the wet weather.

We have also started to eat more summer-like meals, lighter, cooler, and fresher. Last night for example we had prosciutto and melon, for dinner! It was wonderful. We eat out often, of course, but two recent meals for our two high school graduations, we have twins, reminded me of how most portions are still so big! To some chagrin, I insisted on taking home food from nearly everyone’s plates. I hate to waste food. It’s such a privilege to have an abundance of food, but please make use of leftovers!

We have great articles for you again this issue! From the Grijalva Cattle Co., raising Texas Longhorns in North Stonington, to the new Charter Oak Tavern in Westbrook, to a coastal beach vacation at No Mames in Wethersfield.

Importantly we are also happy to publish our first Farmer’s Market listing with support from American Farmland Trust. I’m sure we didn’t capture everything so feel free to send me your recommendations!

And speaking of waste, Rosemary Ostfeld does a fine job covering the zero-waste movement afoot at the Ditty Bag Zero-Waste Market & Café in Mystic.

We’re also so grateful to welcome new advertisers, Cooked Marketplace in Centerbrook, the famous River Tavern in Chester, and Changing Seas Premium Seafood, while also welcoming White Crest Eatery in Stonington back to our family.
