Moromi Shoyu and Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream Collaborate on New Flavor!
Shoyu is Japanese for soy sauce; but the stuff Bob Florence is cooking up over at Moromi is on another level!
Robert Nelson, who has fantastic Mystic merch right over the bridge @justmysticshop got the ball rolling for this collaboration when he introduced Colin, Owner of Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream, to Bob who had the idea of incorporating his delicious Shoyu with Colin's homemade ice cream.
Already a popular dessert in Japan, Colin was excited to give it a try. Soy sauce and ice cream? Colin's and his team certainly had their doubts but were up for the challenge. Using Bob's delectable handcrafted Shoyu, with a splash of vanilla and a pinch of sugar and sea salt they were astounded with how amazing and unique this flavor turned out. Both salty and sweet - similar to a salted caramel!
Thanks to Debbi and Bob Florence, who are familiar faces not only to Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream, but to the town of Mystic, Debbi is an amazing author—you can find her work right down the street at @banksquarebooks! Colin commented: “We are so lucky to be featured in her book Sweet and Sour, so as an homage to her and Bob, we are naming this wonderful flavor Sweet ’n Salty Shoyu!”
“Also we were lucky enough to see behind the scenes of Bob’s Moromi Shoyu facility and he is doing really remarkable work over there. We had no idea the process that goes into making such a premiere product as his but after taste testing all the different styles he’s created it’s no wonder so many local spots such as @oysterclubct and @nanaswesterly use his amazing shoyu sauces!”
After getting the official taste test approval from the experts at the end of May, Colin is proud to say that they now have Shoyu ice cream ready to rock and roll!
Mystic Drawbridge Ice Cream is located at 2 West Main Street in Mystic.
