The moment Thanksgiving dishes are cleared until New Year’s Day, the usual holiday favorites play from every radio station and speaker. To offer some balance, edible CT EAST’s tradition is to go off script a bit. Some classics with a twist, plus other seasonal tunes – a curation equal parts celebratory, introspective, and emotive of the mood this time of year. We scratch beneath the surface to the deeper stirrings of this season. When days grow darker, so could our outlook. But just when it’s darkest, wouldn’t you know it – beautiful, twinkling lights sprout up everywhere we look, in a joyful array of color to light our streets, homes, and our spirits. I wish for all a holiday season and wintertime reflection that returns us to our core, to our universal knowing of the truth that peace, love, light, and goodwill to all is the way.

And as frost covers the hardening land and the first snow falls, we invite you to curl up with something hot to sip, and press play on our Winter/Holiday playlist - On Spotify https://tinyurl.com/mr246mac I’d love to hear your thoughts about this season’s curation! May You Find a Light

Josh Garrels

Let’s start out slow… it takes a minute to arrive in the present. Josh guides us through the opening of this season and back to the light at our center.

What the World Needs Now

Cat Power

Chan Marshall lends her soulful bluesy vocals and piano chords to this ever-true and always oh-so-timely ballad.

Gotta Cheer Up

Cotton Jones

Some folks need a little help getting into the groove of the holidays, and this indie band’s blend of psychedelic folk, dream pop, and Americana helps boost up the cheer!

Pretty Paper

Willie Nelson

While we naturally think about giving our presence and presents to loved ones this time of year, Willie reminds us that all our neighbors, local and far away, deserve our giving spirit.

Let it Snow

She & Him

As the inevitable storms roll in, Zooey Deschanel brings the nostalgia in this lounge-y celebration of being snowbound.

Eight Candles

Yo La Tengo

From the 2019 multi-artist holiday compilation “Hannukah +”, the indefinable Yo La Tengo bring this stylish ode to the eight nights of the Festival of Light.

Winter Weather

Squirrel Nut Zippers

No matter how blustery New England’s winters may be, this jazz swing band emphasizes that whether together with dear ones, or apart, love will always keep us warm.

Santa Baby

Wolf Alice

Despite best intentions, the commercialism of the holidays inevitably proves irresistible to most of us. But Wolf Alice’s Ellie Rowsell acknowledges it with a saucy wink.

The Christmas Waltz

Jeff Goldlum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra

Just in time for this holiday season comes the charming return of Jeff and his jazz orchestra with this fresh take on an old classic.

Come on Santa

The Raveonettes

The Danish duo makes our holiday list again. Their surf rock spin on Christmas tunes always feels both melancholy and warm at the same time.

Sleigh Ride

Miley Cyrus

What are the holidays without a singalong? Miley belts out a fun one, beckoning us for the festive and wintery ride.

Run Rudolph Run

Keith Richards

There’s nothing like the swagger of The Stones’ guitarist and secondary vocalist to help get our shimmy on, evidenced in his rollicking cover of the Chuck Berry classic.

2000 Miles

GRACEY

Young British artist, Gracey, spins a new rendition of the Pretenders song. Her raspy voice and simple arrangement evoke a subtler beauty.

I’ll Be Home For Christmas

Kacey Musgraves with Lana Del Ray

This charming cover by two beloved female talents reminds us that home is wherever our hearts find us.

This Is It

Trousdale

Off this amazing young trio’s 2021 EP “What Happiness Is”, here’s a reminder to pause amidst all the bustle of crowds and meetups with old friends, to just notice and appreciate the happiness of the moment.

Pipes of Peace

MUNA

Let’s pass the musical peace pipe, bringing fresh intention to our weary world to focus on our commonalities, not our differences, in the new year ahead.

Listen, The Snow is Falling

Galaxie 500

We’ll close out with a slow but steady wind up to a twangy, uptempo atmospheric jam from this old-school alternative band.
